Portrait Commissions

There's nothing quite like a professional portrait in oils to make a perfect and lasting gift or family keepsake.

I have many years experience in painting both young and old, using an individualised approach every time to capture the likeness and character in the right way for each client. I work from professional photographs, so there is no need for sitting and this also means a painting can be a surprise gift which is often the intention when I am asked to create this type of work.  I can also work from photographs and information supplied by the client - I'm often asked to do this if the painting is of a loved one who has passed on, and it's perfectly possible to produce a wonderful artwork in this way too.

If you are interested in commissioning a portrait I can give you a personalised quote with no obligation; contact me here to arrange a free call or to discuss your ideas by email.

Below are some examples of my work, displaying a range of very different approaches and showing how different settings can be used to add interest and depth to the portrayal of a personality.

'I am the Ocean and the Wave'

A recently completed commission to commemorate a beautiful young life, the angelic elements and rainbow colours were part of the request. The work is 20 x 30 inches, painted in oils on a stretched linen canvas. The likeness was taken from the client's own photos, so just simple snapshots taken without special lighting etc. The rest of the painting arose from my own imagination, with - I like to believe - more than a little help from the heavenly realms.

'The Garden of Heaven'

This  full length portrait (5' high) was commissioned by a member of the UK Sikh community and depicts His Holiness Satguru Jagjit Singh, the late head of the Sikh faith. As it was painted posthumously, all work was done from photographic references provided by the client, backed up by a considerable amount of research and initial sketches etc.  The aura around his head, the garden setting, frangipani flowers and the peacock all have a special connection to the subject and were included in the composition for this reason.
